Various kinds of game can be seen at Witzenberg.
There are zebra as well as bontebok, eland, springbok, gemsbok,
steenbok and duiker. During a night walk you may stumble across
a porcupine or two. Otters have been seen playing in the Boontjies
River and early risers might see a mongoose running through the
bushes. The game are extremely human friendly so much so that
the birth of a bontebok was witnessed by visitors during the
September holidays.
Birdlife is abundant with over 68 species
having been identified. Amongst others are sunbirds, weavers,
canaries, swallows and flycatchers. Black eagles, harriers
and white-necked ravens have been seen soaring above. Owls
can be heard hooting in the trees at night time.
